Santorini!

Our next stop was the island of Santorini. It is a well known spot for some movies and such (like Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants) This island is an awesome little spot where all of the houses and buldings are built on the side of the cliff. It is so cool! It had once been a volcano that erupted and the middle filled with water. You can see the pumice stone everywhere and the colors of the houses are beautiful. The coolest part was the fact that you could ride donkeys up and down the side of the cliff to get from the port into town! So fun! (Though the donkeys really stunk. ewww.)

The view from the dock and the some guy trying to take a pic of me but getting his finger in the way. thanks.
Blue roofs and stacked houses. How weird would it be to have your roof be someone else's porch?
There were often doors where the first step was a step down. It looked funny to see nothing on the other side of the door when you looked through the window!
The view where you can see the old center of the volcano! Oh, and Santorini is apparently known for it's wine. I had fun taking pictures of the wine glasses with the blue sky and white building contrast!

MERRY CHRISTMAS!

I'm taking a break from holiday travel posts to wish you all a Merry Christmas from here in Colorado. I hope that you have a great holiday!!!!

Rocky Rhodes

Rhodes is an amazing, historical place. From the Colossus that was sold in parts and melted down by the Arabs, to the variety of religious traditions that have come across the island due to the strategic location of Rhodes, this places has a lot of things going for it. I love the mix of the old and the new city. I loved learning the history. Though, the one thing that I noticed that made me laugh more than anything else was how rocky it is! Rocky Rhodes! Hahahahaha. They even paved the old streets with pebbles (which if you walk on it in bare feet it feels like those soccer sandals that were popular 10-15 years ago.) There were rocks EVERYWHERE!

The Acropolis of Ialyssos. It was a monestary, there is a walkway with the stations of the cross, but that isn't all! This place also once was the place of Muslim worship and of those that followed Greek polytheism (The Temple of Athena's ruins are still present on the site.)
Me playing around the monestary. Hahaha. I even got to pretend to be Rapunzel! My hair is getting long, but sadly not long enough. Well, that and my prince charming was on the other side of the ocean.

The old city and the fortress/castle that was controlled by knights! KNIGHTS! How cool is that?
Ruins of a church and the site where the Colossus once stood.
Sunset over Rhodes and you can see the ruins of Apollo's temple right up there by the sun. How cool is that?

Dad for President 2012

That’s right everyone, my dad has been throwing around the idea of running for president of the United States of America. A Mormon Jew with no prior political experience- think he can do it? It is dangerous letting a guy who’s recently been put out of a job to start thinking about a career change. The nice part is that he told me that he could get me a job. Phew. There’s been talk about something that would land me with a title of Ambassador. Not too bad, eh?  He has even been throwing around potential cabinet members that range from Mit Romney to Tom Clancy to my old SCUBA instructor.  Could be one of the more amusing times in American politics yet!  Who would you put in your cabinet?

Party Island

The island of Mykonos is known to be a party island. Now, hitting it up in November--after the tourist season is over makes it difficult to see how this place could be much of a party anything. It was such a lazy, small town. It was lovely, but I had a hard time seeing how it would be a place for partiers! All the same, we had a delightful day walking around this town and having our first taste of authentic Greek food!

I can't seem to get away from windmills!!!!

Yep! Me looking like a dork and proof that Mom DOES use her camera!

The Old Man and the Sea?
I hate tomatoes. I think they are repulsive. Though, I really like this concept for a center piece. I think I'd substitute grapes in since grapes aren't gross.

Mom and Dad at the Windmills!

Some idilic Greek photos

Mykonos is known for it's pelicans! I actually got scarily close to one!

Fishing and Sunsets. Don't you wish you had the island life?
What a fun chill island for our first port of call!!!
